Nearly 11 inches came down in just 24 hours, overwhelming streets and sending floodwaters through parts of the coastal city. More than 2 inches reportedly fell in a single hour. Georgia’s National Environment Agency says the 24-hour rainfall was unprecedented for September in Batumi’s historical records and corresponds to roughly a 100-year rainfall event.
