This is literally a trope in media and fiction as well. White man comes in and learns the way of the natives, eventually mastering it better than themselves and/ or becoming a leader. You see it in Avatar, for example.

i have heard it justified in my studio by saying that japanese ceramics was built on the forced abduction of korean potters during the imjin war which is true but like why would you try to repeat history by stealing it again
