@bones_cameraman: See that straight horizontal line inside the sinus? Don’t ignore it. An air-fluid level occurs when air and fluid occupy the same cavity, creating a distinct horizontal interface on an upright X-ray. In the paranasal sinuses, it can indicate fluid within the sinus, which may occur with conditions such as acute sinusitis, trauma with haemorrhage, or other causes of sinus fluid. When assessing an air-fluid level, ask: 🔹 Which sinus is involved? 🔹 Is the finding unilateral or bilateral? 🔹 Is the patient appropriately positioned upright? 🔹 Are there associated findings, such as mucosal thickening or facial fractures? Important: An air-fluid level is a radiographic finding, not a diagnosis. Always interpret it together with the clinical history and other imaging findings. Learn to recognize the sign.
