I think, ultimately, it’s a bit of a gut feeling. No one can really tell you what you should choose, because only you know what you actually want. Obviously, the outcomes will be different depending on which route you take, but that’s something you have to decide for yourself.Someone once gave me a piece of advice for big decisions: flip a coin, and before it lands, you’ll already know which side you’re hoping for. That’s probably the main thing I’d say.

degree apprenticeship has a more guaranteed outcome but people change careers often so it wont define your final career trajectory

You’re only young once and as much as a degree apprenticeship offers a fantastic opportunity, if you can get into a top 10 uni (which I’m sure with 3 A* you’ll have no problem doing) you can reap so many benefits. Uni is more than just a time for study - it’s a time to explore, make connections and build skills which can lead to clearer objectives after your undergrad. You clearly have the ability to go far, but I would say a degree apprenticeship limits you to employment whereas uni offers the chance to delve further into your subject as an academic or explore broader sectors once you’ve graduated.

Get into an apprenticeship, I’m an apprentice welder, and it was the best opportunity I have been given, being 18 and when you start working and getting paid because your training and learning which is a great benefit, however, it’ll give you a kickstart to what you want in the future, and plus you’ll have a qualification to whatever you choose

if ur not gonna go into a top 10ish uni for bio then go into degree apprenticeship. uni is only better than DA if ur going to a very strong uni in that course

Avoid biology, unless you have a clear plan with what you want to do with that degree. On the top of my head, its not the best in terms of employment prospects. I appreciate you’ll likely have an interest in it, but it needs to be balanced with the degrees worth. Is it valuable to employers? Is it worth the £50k debt? At the moment grad prospects are a bit rough, so all the more reason to make sensible decisions now. Think of a career, think of what you want to do? Is it academics? Industry? A trade? Then tailor your next steps around that. Use your gap year. Have fun, but also start to look at internships/shadowing opportunities.
