I genuinely don’t understand the logic behind religious extremism. What is the value of strictly following religious rules if those rules don’t make you more compassionate toward other human beings? You can avoid technology on a certain day, restrict what you eat, pray constantly, and follow every ritual perfectly—but if you still discriminate against people because they believe differently, what exactly is the spiritual achievement? If God cares about morality, wouldn’t the way you treat other people matter more than how perfectly you follow rituals? And I’m not talking about one specific religion. This contradiction exists in extremist forms of many religions. Ritual without empathy is just ritual. Faith should make us more humane, not give us another reason to divide ourselves.
