@mps_mediang: 📞 “The Person You Are Calling Is Not Available…” The Knockout Stage of the MPS Media Poetry Challenge 2026 – Arewa Edition continued at the North-West Zonal Stages in Kaduna as Hauwa'u Malami Ahmad opened her performance with a striking imitation of the familiar automated voice: “The person you are calling is not available at the moment. Please try again later.” 🎙️📞 What began as a familiar phone message quickly became a powerful metaphor for Nigeria — a country many people describe as being in crisis, broken, or even “dead,” and a nation seemingly waiting for someone to answer the call. Through her poetry, Hauwa'u questioned this perception and asked a deeper question: if Nigeria is facing such serious challenges, what can we do to move forward? Her performance challenged the audience not to simply declare the nation lost, but to think about responsibility, hope, resilience, and the role each generation can play in rebuilding the country. With creativity and a powerful opening, Hauwa'u turned an ordinary telephone message into a message about a nation — leaving the audience with a call that cannot simply be ignored.
