Your preconception plan should already have a plan for pregnancy. When I’m supporting someone who is trying to conceive, I’m not only thinking about what we’re doing now. I’m thinking ahead to what happens when that pregnancy test becomes positive. Because you don’t want to find out you’re pregnant and suddenly be wondering: Do I stop this supplement? Is this herb appropriate in pregnancy? Do I reduce the dose? Is there something I should continue? What blood tests do I need now? Preconception care should transition into pregnancy care thoughtfully. Once pregnancy is confirmed, I reassess the entire treatment plan. Some things may no longer be required. Some may need to be reduced or stopped. Others may still have an important role depending on the individual. And importantly, pregnancy is not the time to make assumptions about supplements or herbal medicines. What was appropriate while trying to conceive may not necessarily be appropriate once pregnant. This is also when your wider healthcare team becomes incredibly important. Your GP, obstetrician, midwife and other practitioners all have roles to play in appropriate testing, monitoring and care throughout pregnancy. A positive pregnancy test shouldn’t leave you scrambling to work out what happens next. The transition should already be part of the plan. If you’re trying to conceive and would like individualised fertility support, our naturopaths offer free discovery calls, with consultations available Australia wide via Zoom and in clinic in Liverpool, Sydney. www.nourishingapothecary.com #Preconception #TryingToConceive #TTC #Fertility #Pregnancy
