We’re spending 3 days hiking and camping inside Haleakala National Park, starting at the Sliding Sands Trailhead at about 9,740 feet and making our way down into the crater. We’ll stay at the historic Kapalaoa Cabin, camp under the stars at Holua Campground, and explore the incredible volcanic landscape along the way. We’ll show you what the Sliding Sands Trail is really like, including the loose cinder, steep elevation changes, high-altitude hiking, changing weather, blooming Haleakala silverswords, Pele’s Paint Pot, and more. On day three, we head out on the Halemauʻu Trail, including the steep switchbacks and roughly 1,400 feet of elevation gain back toward the trailhead.
