I used to really love your autism-mom content, especially as an InD/ASD self-contained teacher. I remember watching you work with him on “safe hands,” red light/green light, and community safety, and I appreciated how much you emphasized teaching him while still loving and accepting him.
You’ve openly shown the scars you’ve gotten from his aggression, and that alone should show how serious these behaviors can be. Staff and other peers shouldn’t be expected to end up with scars too. He deserves dignity, compassion, appropriate supports, and people who understand his disability, absolutely — but the people around him deserve physical safety too. Using protective equipment or separating him from peers during or to prevent repeated dangerous behavior is not automatically abuse. Both things can be true at once.
I really respected your content for a long time, but this framing just isn’t something I can get behind

Great Job Abby!! Sounds like this ABA place is getting away with a lot of stuff. And the school district is finally seeing it.

BCBA here - and first time reader. If this was done by a BCBA you should report them to our board at BACB.com.

as a spec Ed teacher, I've been in some dangerous situations. I've reacted to save myself. my kids are tired of seeing me come home full of bruises, bite marks and scratches. now I need to be scared of parents too.

When I watched you explaining what happened and your body was shaking so badly I relate to that so much! I am also a mom to a special needs son, but he does not need as much support as your son. You are doing an absolutely phenomenal job. I actually taught someone about safe hands because I learned it from you! I hope you can sue them. This is so wrong.

I worked for CDA for 3 weeks as a COTA in fall of ‘24. I left because I couldn’t stand to see how they were treating students and also violating so many IEP and WA laws. Good for you for speaking up!

This is so disturbing..I’m so incredibly sorry that happened 💔 as a BCBA, I’m genuinely disappointed in this kind of conduct by other “professionals” and it’s devestating. Sending you and solo so much love

The second I read them using the blockers incorrectly I knew it was bound to get worse… that’s unacceptable. Your son deserves better and CAN get better treatment. I’m glad your advocating for him and others by reporting this place

: What do you think would be the best thing to do if a student with autism is being aggressive in a classroom full of students?

What’s next? They want an investigation then what are they gonna clear them and they carry on? I could see that happening . Then how long does an investigation take.
