I have a family trauma connected to this song. It used to be one of my favorite songs, which is why I even used it as my phone ringtone. One day, I received a call that my father was being taken to a mental health facility. I had no idea he was already struggling. My family kept it from me because I was working and living far away from home, alone. Since then, hearing this song has scared me. It would instantly trigger my panic, and for a long time, I couldn’t listen to it without remembering that day. I’m still dealing with it until now, but I can say that I’m slowly moving forward. “Older” was my first love. It saved a lot of me, and I also used it in one of my activities with my students. Sasha, I just want you to know that you have inspired me in so many ways. Thank you for your life, your music, and your talent. You may not know it, but your music has been part of my story in ways I could never explain.
