@cultrgio: Miki Matsubara was a Japanese singer who became one of the most recognizable voices associated with Japan’s city pop era. In 1979, she debuted with “Mayonaka no Door (Stay With Me),” which became her signature song. She went on to release multiple albums and songs like “Neat na Gogo 3 Ji” and “The Winner,” building a catalog that went far beyond her debut. Miki sadly passed away at just 44 years old in 2004, but her music continued to live on. In 2020, a massive resurgence introduced “Stay With Me” to new audiences around the world through social media, eventually topping Spotify’s Global Viral 50. Decades after its original release, the song became an international gateway into Japanese city pop and made Miki one of the genre’s most recognizable artists worldwide. #mikimatsubara
