hopeless necromantic by @Shiloh Briar (Author) scrapbook spread 🌟 my review: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Hopeless Necromantic follows necromancer Sikras and Helspira, a demon and member of the red sentinel. Helspira is tasked with retrieving Sikras to aid in the efforts of taking down Vessik, his oldest friend before he became an evil necromancer that raised a whole army of dead people. However, Sikras is a shell of his former self. He only provides necromancing services to the desperate townsfolk along with his undead brother-in-law, Benjamin, that he is using so much of his magic to keep alive. Sikras actually agree to accompany Helspira back to see the Queen. He also has a hard time grasping the fact that his former friend was the kindest person who only wanted to help people out has turned into someone so evil and he has the power to kill him. Helspira, on the other hand, is part of the queen’s army but is treated like an outsider due to being a demon. She finally meets people who have treated her so kindly, but she has been secretly tasked with killing Benjamin in order for Sikras to regain his full power back if they want any hope of defeating Vessik and his undead army. This was such a fun read! I absolutely loved the characters and their banter, especially Sikras and Benjamin. Their friendship felt so genuine to me, and I loved all their scenes together. I adored that they are so warm towards Hespira, especially due to how everyone has been treating her. The author did an amazing job of talking about how people cope with grief and loss in different ways and the difficulty of moving on despite it being the most healthy options. I did feel like the book lacked in-depth world-building but I am hoping there will be more of it in the next book!
