I also really like in Fight Club how we see a ton of normal every day looking people turning out to be members of Project Meyhem, like the police officers and the many different office workers who we see supporting Tyler durden. It just goes to show that even normal looking men can have alterior motives when no one is looking, having normal jobs but also being a part of a group that is trying to take away those same jobs and the safety of their life.

I think it’s an interesting call out on how men actually love and create hierarchy. We see this with gangs, religious clergy, the military, frats, the corporate ladder, sports teams and skills or trade hierarchies in blue collar jobs. While women of course participate in job and social hierarchy (set up by men), often times when women congregate there’s no ladder structure, and everyone is on the same level.

I would like to let you know that I really appreciate the way you break this stuff down. You do a good job of showing how things can be deep without being convoluted or inaccessible. Theres something about this series that reminds me of the first year of college where learning feels expansive and kind of exciting again

Next, I always wondered why I didn’t “GET” fight club, but your breakdown shows that this strain of disenfranchisement is particular to white American men.
