The real reason I wore black on my wedding day ⸻ It honestly wasn’t meant to be a statement, even though I know the colour says a lot on its own. I actually tried on over 70 dresses before I found “the one.” And even then, something still felt… incomplete. I wanted more meaning—something symbolic that really reflected marriage & what comes with it. A few months before the wedding, I was talking to someone who told me to stop overthinking all I’d seen online and just follow my instincts & think outside the box, which I do best. That really stuck with me. And then it hit me—why not black? Most people don’t know this, but before Queen Victoria’s white gown started the whole tradition, black wedding dresses were quite common. They represented transformation and mourning—the idea of leaving behind your old life to unite with your soul mate. That symbolism just made sense. I loved the idea of embracing change, and highlighting the sadness that may also come with marriage. And the best part? He’s always said how much he loves me in all black. So, in a way, it was meant to be! With my dear friend @hanselandgretelcakes we created a gown that brought all of that meaning to life. It wasn’t just a dress—it was a piece of my story. It reflected who I was, who I am, and everything I was stepping into.
