Replying to @amanda If the whole reason God made me was to worship Him, I didn't want to. I felt like there was nothing more self-centered than creating a bunch of people to worship you & calling it “choice” while choosing against it meant hell?? That didn't seem fair to me. Then I got the smallest glimpse into the character of God. I realized how great He is and that my mind cannot begin to fathom. I thought of all His greatness existing out there in the universe with no one to ever experience it, and I realized how much easier it would've been to keep it all to Himself; to never involve messy, complicated beings like us… but He created us anyways. And then He set parameters, and made it simple “just don't do this one thing” so we were ALLOWED to choose Him, not forced to. Choosing hell just means choosing the complete absence of God because He is all things good. He knows what is best, but loves too deeply to force it upon us. Then He gave guidelines of the ways to live that will cause us less pain and heart ache & bring us closer to Him—BUT we continue to turn our backs. He is the maker and the holder of ALL THE BEST THINGS in life, so He longs for us to share in it with Him (just like He intended since the beginning of time) but our pride won’t let us. I used to claim “I will never serve a self-ish God” and then I realzied I was the self-ish one to assume the purpose of life was all about me. I don't serve a selfish God. I serve a God so self-less, He made people to share in His goodness, knowing we would deny Him, and then sent His son to die and restore the brokenness WE created. I've tried my own way. I've chose my own path, and everytime it broke me in the end. If the Bible isn't enough for you, let my story testify— God’s plans are greater and His ways are higher. The evil of this world does not disprove His goodness, it only proves how far we’ve fallen from what He designed. Turn your ways, fix your eyes, ask Him to reveal a glimpse of His character to you, and humble yourself enough to accept that your view of Him could be wrong.
