@borntoserve07: To the unpaid caregiver… There may be no paycheck attached to what you do, but please don't confuse unpaid with unimportant. Somebody ate today because you remembered. Somebody was safe because you were paying attention. Somebody made it through another difficult day because you showed up—even when you were tired too. And somewhere along the way, you may have started believing that resting was something you had to earn. You don't. Tonight, I don't want to give you another checklist. I don't want to tell you what needs fixing. And I don't want to give you one more thing to carry. Let tonight be tonight. Whatever didn't get finished can stay unfinished. Whatever question didn't get answered can wait. Whatever is sitting on tomorrow's list belongs to tomorrow. After 17 years in caregiving, one thing I understand differently now is this: You cannot keep borrowing from yourself forever and expect there to be no cost. So tonight, put the caregiving day down. Not because everything is perfect. Not because everything is finished. But because you are finished for today. To every unpaid caregiver who feels invisible: I see you. Your work matters. And so do you. you're an unpaid caregiver reading this tonight, you don't have to explain anything.
