Just over a year ago, we made the very difficult decision to have a Mic-Key tube surgically implanted into Gus’s bladder. We agonized over the decision, making it very clear to his nephrologist that we didn’t want to do it just for the sake of doing “more” - and only wanted to move forward if he genuinely felt that the device could lead to a true improvement in Gus’s quality of life and help us get his persistent multi-drug resistant kidney infection under control. We are SO glad that we decided to move forward with the procedure - it absolutely saved Gus’s life and has given him the chance to be his happiest, healthiest self! While Gus has always been a happy boy, looking back at these videos really drove home to me how much of his life, pre-cystostomy tube, had been full of medical appointments, him feeling crummy, getting new rounds of meds over and over, and me being in a constant state of worry. This past year has been an absolute gift.💗 While Gus has permanent damage in his one remaining kidney, and he will always be prone to kidney infections, the cystostomy tube has given us a reliable way to keep infections at bay, treat them if they do occur, and slow further damage to his kidney caused by urinary retention. We are so incredibly grateful that he’s taken to the tube so well and that he continues to be his happy, sweet self. We are forever grateful to @friendship_neph_uro for helping us get Gus to this point. 💗 #cats #specialneedscat #perfectlyimperfect #Love
