Thinking back to Sociology class, there's the Goffmanesque discussion of how we behave in different circumstances around different people. It's very, "I'm going to act the same everywhere I go and with everyone" and that's never been realistic, even if that's a new ideal. I'm not going to act the same with a stranger as my boss as my best friend as my partner. It feels to me like an extension of this.

Meanwhile in Greece where the Frappé was invented bringing your coffee along means you are raring to go, you’ve left home too early to have your coffee there and you’re not going on an extended coffee break at the coffee shop. You are ready to buckle down and get on with it. I have meetings where everyone turns up with their coffee to get things done. America is very new to coffee culture and it shows.
