You’re not living off of 1.7M for life at 38. 1.7 might be enough to retire if you’re 70

$1.7M at 38 will not carry you the rest of you life unless you plan to not have children and live extremely frugally. Using the 4% rule, that’s only $68K before tax. Inflation will make that feel like nothing.

Very admirable, but how are you going to retire at 38 if all your assets are tied into retirement accounts you cannot touch without penalty

I have $1.6M right now at 34 and I promise you, I’m not even close to retiring especially if kids are in your future. $5-10M is the number keep grinding

1.7 mil by 38 wont make work optional. If you plan on having kids, owning a home, decent vehicles, and vacations - you’ll need about 5x that to have work be optional. You’d be lucky to have 1.7 mil put 2 kids through college in 20 years.

I went college wanting to retire at 45. One income. Retired at 43 and 9 months with around $2,000,000. 60 in a month net worth now is $8,715,000. $400,000 passive income a year. Making money isn’t work when you don’t have to work.

Dude not even remotely close. To retire that early you need at least 5 million at least.

Roth IRA contributions can be withdrawn anytime, tax- and penalty-free. Only the earnings are locked until 59½. Early retirees bridge the rest with the Rule of 55 and 72(t) payments.

You will need a zillion for healthcare if you retire that early.

Only $15,000,000 more needed if factoring in inflation for as young as you both look… and some of that mentioned invested money is only accessible at ages later in life…. Early retiree here in the know
