Had this happen twice in one year. One was a septic elderly patient that was very delirious and accused me of grape, another was a patient with unmedicated BPD and schizophrenia who accused me of grape and organ theft. I quit after that. That was my first year of nursing too lmao. Not worth it. Stay away from this field guys. Far, far, FAR AWAY. It will ruin your mental health!

my wife had a male nurse while giving birth to my son. He was great but said he had a really hard time, specially in a birthing unit. tons of hate for just being a male nurse.

working in a psych ward made it worse 😭 if a female patient needed me to open their blinds with a key, i kicked them out the room cause i wasn’t about to be alone w them and no camera

Psych patient said I made her “uncomfortable” got a “stern” talking to, she got discharged that same day came back the very next day and tried to give me a hug, I was essentially cowering behind the female nurse because I needed a witness to see I’m not on that.

Need a female nurse to accompany or supervise for insurance for stuff like these cuz sometimes staff shortage happens and if Male nurses is manly what you have to save lives, then what can you do.

Yeah always have a fellow nurse/staff in the room if you have to do anything invasive (foley, ekg, etc.). Fortunately, i haven't had this happen in my 12 years of nursing, but it only takes 1 false accusation to create a headache. Remember you can always request change in assignments if you are not comfortable. You can ask your patient if they would be more comfortable with a female nurse versus a male nurse. And document that you requested and asked the patient for preference.

I was a hospital security officer and I was asked to sit on a patient in 4 point restraint during a shift change and I flatly refused and told them to fire me if they didn’t like it
