![Genie Wiley's story is one of the most devastating cases of childhood abuse ever documented. For the first 13 years of her life, she was confined by her father, isolated from the outside world, rarely spoken to, and punished whenever she made noise. Deprived of normal human interaction, she never had the chance to develop language or basic social skills. Everything changed in 1970 when her mother escaped and brought Genie to safety. She was unable to communicate with words and had difficulty walking, leaving doctors and researchers stunned. Her case became the focus of groundbreaking studies on language development, and although she made remarkable progress, she was never able to fully acquire normal speech. Sadly, her struggles didn't end after her rescue. As she was moved between foster homes and care facilities, reports suggested she experienced further neglect and abuse. Eventually, she was placed in long-term care, where she has remained out of the public spotlight.
