SACRILEGIOUS ARRANGEMENT Dear friends, I hope you're doing well. Today I'm delighted to bring you the last video of the summer before I head off to Japan for a month! Last video but not least, I've decided to tackle a monument of the violin repertoire, Tchaikovsky's concerto! This concerto is definitely one of the most famous and technically demanding works in the violin repertoire. Composed in 1878 while Tchaikovsky was recovering from depression following his disastrous marriage, it was initially dedicated to Leopold Auer, a renowned violinist of the time, who declined to perform it, dubbing it "unplayable". This forced Tchaikovsky to dedicate it to another violinist, Adolph Brodsky, who premiered the piece in Vienna in 1881. I've chosen to offer you the start of the finale, an Allegro vivacissimo, which I felt was best suited to the clarinet. A curiosity about the finale is that Tchaikovsky incorporated a popular French melody, "Il faut s'amuser, danser et rire" (It's all about having fun, dancing and laughing!) The use of this melody gives this movement a vibrant and playful character, reflecting Tchaikovsky's regained optimism after a difficult period in his life. A good message after Covid and a hard year! At the end of these 10 sacrilegious videos, don't hesitate to vote for this piece if you want the full version! I hope you have a great summer, take care, keep up practicing, and I'll see you in September!
