It is an Arbutus Tree. My personal favourite. Only found on the West Coast of North America.

i ordered wood from a local guy- there were logs of arbutus in the delivery. that stuff burns like coal. one log would last us all night in the winters.

I grow these, no Arbutus menseseii is not not the same as your Australian paperbark tree. Arbutus are in the Erica/Heather family and your Melaleuca quinquenervia is in the Myrtle family. Arbutus only grow on a thin coastal strip from SW BC Canada to Me I o.

Indigenous used the leaf for tea to heal the kidneys and body . Loggers used the little red berries for fishing ,they imitate salmon roe
