@narcissisticpartners: Hi, it's Juliana! I'd like you to imagine you're trying to take a picture with your phone. You open the camera, get everything lined up, press the button... Then a message comes up saying: “Not Enough Storage.” What would you do here? Would you stop and think about everything your phone is already storing and managing for you? You know, things like: – All of your photos. – All of your videos. – All of your apps. – All of your messages. – All of your files. Or would you just be frustrated that it can't take the picture? You're probably going to be frustrated, right? Why? Because your phone isn't a person. It's a tool. So you don't really care about everything it has going on behind the scenes. You just want it to take the picture. And that's how narcissistic partners often approach their relationships. Yes, they know you're a person. But they don't always treat you like one. They can treat you more like a tool that's there to meet their needs. So when they ask you to do something like: “Can you pick up Doritos?” They don't care about everything else you're already trying to remember and get done. They just want you to get the Doritos. And if you don't, it's very common for them to get frustrated the same way you would be if your phone couldn't take the picture. But just to be clear, the frustration isn't the “narcissistic” thing here. You can get frustrated with someone without being a narcissistic person. It's the source of that frustration (seeing you as a tool instead of a person) that makes it narcissistic. If you need someone to talk to about all of this, you can always send me a DM or schedule a session with me. My team and I help people heal from narcissistic abuse, and many of us have experienced it ourselves, so we're here if you need us. To your healing, Juliana ❤️🩹

Now I am questioning if I am a narcissist…because I will be at work (my partner works from home. I don’t) and ask him to take meat out to defrost for dinner. Then I get home and see he hasn’t done it. But I also do the laundry, cleaning, pet care…so I have said “I asked you to do ONE thing! Why can’t you do this one thing for me?”…so…now I am like, “Am I the jerk here?”

They make excuses to be so mean to you. And they never feel bad for you

It’s also rude to repeatedly forget something you told your partner you would get for them. That can make someone feel like their needs weren’t important enough to remember.
You’re interpreting his reaction as selfish while automatically excusing her behavior. But the exact same logic works in reverse: if his disappointment supposedly means he doesn’t care about her, why couldn’t repeatedly forgetting what mattered to him mean she doesn’t care about him?
And if the genders were reversed—a woman repeatedly asking her boyfriend to remember something for dinner and him repeatedly forgetting—I seriously doubt people would be rushing to explain why she shouldn’t be upset. They’d be asking why he couldn’t remember something that mattered to his partner.
You can criticize how someone reacts without pretending the behavior they reacted to was automatically acceptable. Accountability doesn’t suddenly become one-sided because the person who is upset is a man.

These types of people you will hear people in their circles sounding like used cars salesmen telling you how “good” of a person they are crap. Get your own review of everybody without the outside influencers.

My ex refused to work, refused to grocery shop, refused to clean, and refused to help with the animals yet would blow up on me for being overwhelmed because he said I wasn’t doing that much. Funny how he’s still alone years after I left him.
