i want to know why people believe we don't have a self. my most common argument is that you can recall on yourself from 10 years ago, and you will most likely say that you are the same person despite being physically or mentally matured, yet there is something that connects you to that younger self. of course, some people will argue that the reason you can connect to your younger self is through memories, experiences, etc, and that your 'self' isn't really a self, and what you are is simply what you experience, and you are nothing more than that. but that brings up my question, what if someone lives the exact same life as you? let's say an artificial organism that experiences a simulation of your life is made, and they live your life exactly as you did, think the same as you, act the same as you, and go through everything you did, would you say that is you? would you say that the artificial organism is you? logically, your answer should be no, because if i put both of you in rooms, and asked who the original is, which one is the 'I' that i'm talking to, both of you could say you're the original and i wouldn't be able to distinguish it, and that doesn't work, at least one of you has to be wrong when saying "I am the person". because of that, simply saying we are what we experience, remember, and do rather than having some sort of self is illogical. how would you argue that there is no self? i would like to know
