This section houses the Trimmable Horizontal Stabilizer (THS), a key flight control surface responsible for the aircraft’s longitudinal stability. And something many people don’t realize: the aircraft’s “black boxes” - the Flight Data Recorder (FDR) and Cockpit Voice Recorder (CVR) - are also installed in the tail section. They are placed here because the rear of the aircraft statistically has a higher chance of surviving severe accidents, increasing the likelihood that the data can be recovered.
