I would sit beside you again. I would give your medication again. I would hold your hand again. I would listen to you ask for your Coke and your ice blocks again. I would do it all 100 times over because you were my Lu. Caring for you was never a burden. It was my privilege to be there when you needed me most. I just wish I had more time. One more day. One more conversation. One more laugh. One more hug. One more “Alfie…” But I know you are no longer suffering, and that has to be enough for me, even though my heart doesn’t understand it yet.
