Video - Tabwa family in Chitungwiza seeking assistance for 4 year old Skyie with deformed face as Sisi Vee donates us$20 for his milk 19/02/24 Hope for Zimbabwe Children (HFZC) is sharing with you the story of the Tabwa family in Chitungwiza. *Background* Nyarai Delin Tande is a 43 year old woman who is married to 54 year old Machipisa Tabwa. *Family and children* 4 year old boy Skyie born with head cavity and deformed face with a rare physical and health condition. *Economic background* Mr and Mrs Tabwa are not formally employed and have no reliable  source of income.They used to survive on a poultry project at their previous residence, keeping broiler chickens and growing mushrooms for sale . During that time following the outbreak of covid in 2019 their business declined and they have since relocated to Chitungwiza. They also face water shortages at the current residence.  *Accommodation* They are currently staying in a 4 roomed house in Chitungwiza which is not very conducive for the upkeep of the physically challenged children as it is not adapted to meet their physical needs. A good Samaritan offered them the Chitungwiza house to live for free without paying rent. *Health Challenges* Skyie needs medical checkup and physiotherapy and he is always shaking vigorously . He can not walk, can not speak properly, he crawls when moving . He is paralysed. Skyie's condition is bad and has many deformities from head to toes .He is blind ,deaf and dumb and his mode of communication is crying .He was born unwanted by relatives. After doctors scanned his mother and the scan results showed abnormalities the relatives advised the mother to terminate the pregnancy but the mother refused. Skyie's mother started abusing illicit drugs and is now late. Just after the death of his mother the relatives dumped Skyie at Chitungwiza hospital. The hospital and social welfare failed to take care of him until the Tabwa family volunteered to take him as their foster child. Skyie is in desperate need of constant special medical attention. He is on special diet as he cannot  chew and has difficulties swallowing. As doctors are battling to save him he always needs more operations . Currently due to financial constraints Skyie missed two operations which were supposed to be done by September 2022. Sky survives mostly on milk which is expensive for the family and they cannot afford it. He can also now take blended fruit juices and porridge but because blenders need electricity to function there is a challenge because their residence doesn't have electricity. They use gas and firewood for cooking and a small torch for lighting. * Social challenges* Due to the physical challenges the three children they care for don't normally play with other children. They are taken care of by the family who meet all their day to day tasks of living such as personal care and feeding which takes more than two hours per session to feed them. Personal care is not easy either as the children have to be carried. Mrs Tabwa has developed backache and thighs pains due to the weight that stretches her muscles. Their source of water is a well which is quite a distance from the house. They use buckets to fetch water for daily use. This is a very demanding task because the children constantly change clothes in a day thus laundry is an issue. They cannot afford washing powder and washing soap all the time. Some few well wishers used to help them at times but the Ministry of social welfare is not coming forward to assist . They therefore rely on self help projects but nowadays thing are not well for the family. Even the relatives of the children don't visit.
