A little bit of country has landed in the Perth CBD - and it’s free, for one month only! 🌾 A wheat field has taken over the floor of an empty Perth CBD office building, and it's exactly as strange and calming as it sounds. Half a million stalks (600m²), hand-harvested from Yerecoin and Wyening, and painstakingly planted stem by stem into foam flooring by the artists and a crew of volunteers. The result is surreal. Fluorescent lights glow overhead. Underfoot, it's the Wheatbelt. We got a first look at "there is nothing you need to do in here." before it opens to the public, and sat down with Alex and Stian from WHAC to hear how it came together. What struck us most wasn't the scale of this art installation (though half a million individual pieces of wheat is genuinely hard to comprehend) - it was the quiet. Paths wind through the field. There are places to just sit. An immersive soundtrack drifts through the stalks, and somewhere in the contrast between glass, concrete and grain, the city starts to feel very far away. There's nothing to do in here. No task, no agenda - just the invitation to walk, sit, and notice. Keep an eye out for mini wheat pop-ups in other CBD buildings too, small signals pulling city workers toward the main event. WHAC (Wongan Hills Arts Co.) is a new not-for-profit art organisation creating contemporary art experiences inspired by the Wheatbelt and regional WA. This is their first project, and a first window into what's coming. 📍 1 Mill Street, Perth 🗓️ 11 September - 11 October 🕚 11am-2pm weekdays | 12pm-5pm weekends 🎟️ Free, 20-minute sessions - booking required Go wander a wheat field in the middle of the city. There's nothing you need to do in there - that's kind of the point! . . . . . . #PerthCity #perthevents #perthtodo #Perth #perthcreatives
