These are a few things I do when eating out that help me feel my best without turning dinner or a fast food stop into a math equation or a cheat meal!! 1) I usually start by looking for a protein-forward meal + keep it as simple as possible 2) If a meal is missing either protein or fiber, I’ll build it in! **Think: adding chicken to a salad or adding a side salad/veggies to a protein-based entrée. 3) I look for the biggest calorie contributors on the plate (usually fats) and decide what’s actually worth it to me. **For example, if a salad comes with goat cheese, candied nuts, and dressing, I’ll often get one or two of those on the side so I can be intentional with the amount. 4) I almost always ask for light dressing (on the side!) because restaurants tend to use way more than most people realize. 5) If I’m tracking, I’ll use my years of tracking experience to estimate or if I’m short on time I’ll use ChatGPT to get a reasonable estimate of the mea. Is it exact? No. Is it a lot more helpful than guessing? Absolutely :) 6) If we’re ordering apps. dessert or something fun, it’s usually for the table. I use the “this or that” mentality and choose the things I truly want, not ALL THE THINGS. I still get to enjoy it, just without turning it into the entire meal. Most people aren’t confused because their body is unpredictable. They’re confused because they have no awareness of what they’re actually consuming consistently. A lot of restaurant meals over-serve you by hundreds of calories from oils, dressings, sauces, cheese, nuts, + extras alone. You don’t have to avoid those foods. You just need to be intentional about them. You absolutely CAN enjoy your meal, stay aligned with your goals + leave feeling good. Those things are not mutually exclusive 🫶🏼
