‘He’s trying to strangle me and kill me’ James Stock, 40, from Clevedon, was jailed for 20 years after being convicted of the attempted murder of ex-partner Caroline Goddard. In the call, Caroline Goodard, known as Caz, feared for her life when she was violently attacked at her home in Weston-super-Mare, North Somerset. After months of being in a coercive relationship, Ms Goodard said she finally asked Stock to leave her home in July last year. The next thing she remembered was Stock knocking her to the floor and strangling her. Ms Goodard managed to escape and run to her room, where she called 999 saying:

While secretly still on the phone to police around 3am, she was dragged outside her house and repeatedly beat up. The whole incident lasted 45 minutes before police arrived at the scene, 16 minutes after the emergency call, to meet Stock pretending to help her. He told police, “help her, help her” before admitting “that it might be me”. Officers found Caroline unresponsive on the ground before paramedics took her to hospital. She sustained multiple injuries, including a bruised and swollen right eye, bruising to her cheeks, legs and arms, as well as a fractured nose and swelling to her neck. Police said Stock also pleaded guilty to intentional strangulation and one count of assault by beating relating to an earlier attack. He was sentenced on Wednesday 15 July after a trial at Bristol Crown Court had already found him guilty of attempted murder. #5News
