The last part where he really did his best to reach for it but the dumb scientist ain't sticking it to him. So i guess with all his last braincells left active, he reached for it using his monster hands but i guess he can't control it well that's why he ripped off the scientist's hand but wasn't able to get the syringe... It was sad, really. I guess that roar he did in the end wasn't a monster's roar but a cry of a man who was defeated after all he's been through.
