Happened to me once. I worked for a phone company and they wanted me to learn all the prices and promotions off the top of my head. When I couldn't remember all of them, they told me "we don't need someone who can't remember the promotions". I proceeded to stay instead of walking out and continued to review the promotions. At the end of the day they praised me for staying and persevering. In reality I was just too stupid to realize I had been fired and put my head down.
