@hiddenlinesarchitect: For an architect, two things are extremely important: reading and traveling. The more books you read, the stronger you become philosophically. Reading helps you develop better narratives, stronger concepts, and a deeper understanding of design. It shapes the way you think and approach architecture beyond just buildings. The second is traveling. I travel extensively and try to spend two to three months each year exploring new places and learning from different environments. Architecture is a lifelong learning process, and travel is one of the best teachers. International travel is valuable, but even if that’s not possible, traveling within your own country can be equally rewarding. Every place has its own culture, lifestyle, history, and way of solving problems. Whether you’re visiting another country or simply moving from one city to another, you will discover something new. You observe how people live, how spaces function, and how communities interact with their surroundings. These experiences become part of your learning process. An architect absorbs ideas from different places, adapts useful insights, and tries to implement them in future designs. Wherever you find something meaningful, you take inspiration from it and translate it into your work.
