when the engine was running smooth once the engine warmed up the RPM was just below a thousand. anything lower than that the engine moves too much.

I took my car to a mechanic because a lot of the dash lights were staying on but not the engine light. the RPM was running where it should and the engine was not idling bad. when I got my car back the RPMs were off. instead of being just under a thousand it went down to about 800. the crooked mechanic told me that my license plate was loose that was that rattling noise you were hearing but it was actually the RPMs were too low.
