These folks have absolutely no clue what is about to happen to them. Civil court is NOT like criminal court. The law suit will be Defamation Per Se. Per se is an actual legal term that means the alleged defamation is so egregious and blatantly harmful, that the court does not have to hear evidence to access damages, it is assumed as self evident. They seem to think that they will get to examine his personal information to find some evidence of a crime, and that will exonerate them. But defamation does not work that way. They will have to show they already POSSESSED the evidence that convinced them what they were saying was true. If they did not have concrete evidence, in their possession at the time they made the statements and published those remarks, it is a guilty verdict. Open and shut. Damages can run in the millions. And that’s after court costs, and reasonable attorneys fees. Yes attorneys fees plural, as Patric isn’t paying his lawyers, who ever losses will. And his lawyers are not cheap. If they do not have the money to pay those bills, and the judgments, they will loose their house, their cars, their savings accounts and possibly their retirement savings as well. Future wages will be garnished. So some serious heart felt advice. If you are part of this group of folks saying these things, retain a lawyer, yesterday if not sooner. Show that lawyer all the evidence you collected that convinced you to make those statements as truth. If you don’t have evidence, and you were just repeating some lunatic conspiracy theory as if it were a fact, then, you are already cooked. Legal disclaimer, I am not a lawyer. Post rant, bankruptcy will not affect court ordered judgments. You may be able to get out of court costs and attorneys fees, but the judgment will stand.
