Down Memory Lane 🔵❤️ A letter from Najjera ✍🏾 Thursday, 15th October, 2026 THE DESK THAT WAITED FOR US “We wrote our names on that desk, believing the world was waiting for us. We never imagined how many of us would disappear before the journey ended.” Sometimes, as I sit quietly in my living room, my thoughts carry me back to the beautiful days of my childhood, when life was simpler, laughter came easily, and happiness could be found in the smallest things. Before I know it, I am walking down memory lane, revisiting the corridors of my old primary school and remembering the wonderful classmates with whom I shared those precious years. Oh, how beautiful those days were! We shared desks, lunches, pencils, secrets, innocent laughter, and dreams of becoming somebody important in the world. We sat shoulder to shoulder, scribbling our names on wooden desks, unaware that one day those very desks would become silent witnesses to a past we would spend the rest of our lives longing to revisit. We had little, yet we were happy. A borrowed pencil could save the day, a shared piece of pancake could make us friends for life, and a simple game during break time could fill our hearts with boundless joy. Our teachers stood before us, patiently shaping our minds, while we imagined a bright future waiting just beyond the classroom walls. Little did we know that life had its own plans. As I recall those familiar faces, one by one, my heart sinks beneath the weight of a painful realisation. More than half of those childhood companions are no longer alive. Some departed while still young, before adulthood had fully unfolded before them. Others left this world after growing up, carrying with them dreams they had nurtured since those innocent school days. What pains me most is knowing that many never lived long enough to see their dreams come true. They left behind unfinished journeys, unfulfilled ambitions, and memories that time can never erase. And what of those who remain? We have become strangers to one another. Some are still here in Uganda, while others have crossed oceans and settled in distant lands in search of better opportunities. The fast-paced life we live today has scattered us across the world, and the friendship that once needed no effort now struggles to survive the distance. Sometimes, I wonder whether my former classmates ever remember those days as I do. Do they ever think about the old classroom, the familiar voices, and the wooden desk that once held our names and our dreams? Perhaps this is not my story alone. Perhaps it is the story of an entire generation. We entered that classroom as children, believing we had all the time in the world. Today, some names remain only in our memories. And somewhere, in that old classroom, a desk still waits for the children we once were. #jaqs_chronicles 🔵❤️ #foryoupage #viral #fyp #trending
