It feels so much like resident evil that I hope they make 2-3 more of these with the same basic formula and then make a remake and then a prequel and then change it up for the next one because people are complaining about the formula getting stale and then they make the most successful one yet but then the next two that come are really divisive and gets complaints about turning too much into an action movie series so then it gets refreshed into a small b-movie southern horror type thing

As a diehard RE fan I loved the movie. I just wish it showed more of the umbrella side and potentially some underground lab or something similar. But I loved how Bryan always did the worst decisions ever as if it was an actually person playing the game for the first time. Cregger did a fantastic job and showed that he really meant it when he said he loves the games.

The opening statement is just wrong lmao. The first two Alice movies are waaay better, the only issuea they have is that Alice is shown to be some superpowered badass, and in the second one she pushes the hero characters to the side stage. The new movie is shite compared to those.

Spot on. The best game adaptations happen when they don’t just rehash the original plot, but tell a fresh story set in that world. That was the case with the Fallout series, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, and Arcane.

I’ve been saying since forever that Resident evil has never been about consistency, it literally as a 30 year old franchise has always wanted to evolve and adapt with the amount of spinoffs and remakes it has. It is the world building that stays specific and the game mechanics which I’ve never seen a director adapt in such an immersive inspiring VR- like way. Zac Cregger is the goat for showing what re is beyond just the conventionally attractive characters a lot of ppl know it by, even if they are cool.

I think part of the desire for a direct adaptation comes from this braindead idea that live-action is superior to animation. They want the Resident Evil they've already played but make it live-action.

Literally since the very first game though there is: corny one liners/comedy, as well as over the top corny action. So I don’t get what everyone’s problem is/still is/or was with Gregger’s rendition/movie. Pure senility at this point from RE “fans”

This film was brilliant, I been a huge fan of the franchise since I was a kid, and you ain’t wrong the older films are awful there’s never been any good ones but you can sit down watch this film, take all the resident evil aspects like umbrella being mentioned or even raccoon city and go “hmmm this feels like a resident evil film” and that’s what I love, and the horror in this film felt like the older games even 7, and the comedy gave me some remembrance to the comedy in the games, the film was amazing so many little references to the games, like the type writer, the herb, even the padlock comment he made, and I love the fact it’s an original story of a brand new character not a one to one adaptation which is one the reasons I ain’t a big fan of the last of us tv show because hey I might as well just play the games and I have, resident evil is a solid 8.5/10 loved it!

110% hard agree. Without a doubt if cregger set out to make an adaptation of one of the games, the same fans complaining about this movie would be complaining about the plot, or casting, or some other random bullshit. This movie absolutely rips for what it is, my only gripe is that I wish it had a subtitle (very dumb complaint I know)
