@mind_yourboundaries: 🤷🏻♀️ Have you ever had a child’s first taken from you? Or if you’re a grandparent how do you feel about this topic? I just think it’s so unfair. 😫 For Ryan and I, it felt like, hey, you had your turn, this is our chance to experience this... come on. And one of our firsts got taken when our kid was already old enough to remember it. Man, that one was hard to swallow… 🤯 I understand some firsts are unavoidable - first words (I don’t think I’d even tell the parent. IDK) or first steps (again, I might just keep my mouth shut - is that wrong???) Back to this story, if I were this new mom, the biggest thing I'd feel is worried! My husband and I just aren't on the same page. Being a solid parental team is HUGE when it comes to relaxing into family dynamics. Once they get on the same page, I believe she'll feel a lot better, and the future will be a lot smoother. What do you think? PSA - this story was shared for education and reflective purposes only. I was Breastfeeding and I was taking a nap - my baby’s father took my baby down the road to his parents house - I woke up hours later - milk everywhere- in a panic - can’t find my baby - eventually track him down and come to find out my MIL fed him FORMULA- had bottles and everything at her house - planning this moment- she said it was “selfish” of me to breastfeed because nobody else can feed the baby … I immediately arranged an emergency dental appointment for her and she’s now my EX MIL…..

health aspect aside, MIL took away a first! but she doesn't have a MIL issue, she has a husband issue.

My son always had digestive issues- since birth. I also fed him real food too early and carry guilt still at 26 years old

It’s opposite for me, my mom thinks she over rules me bc she’s my mom. My MIL respects my parenting boundaries

Total disregard for the parents’ boundaries. Husband is also problematic. This is bigger than just food.

How old is baby? You can absolutely cause real physical damage to baby’s GI tract by starting solids too early.

Any parent who does this in any capacity whether it be food or what ever is 100% disrespectful to their son and daughter in law. Shame on her MIL.

My MIL did this except I was standing right there and said “no” … she did it anyway. Breaking these little boundaries turn into breaking the big ones. It’s never a big deal because it’s not their child. No one loves or knows their own baby/child the way a mother does.. so when a mother says no, it’s no.

Wow crossing the line. You need a united front however i would not trust the MIL until you start solids. Even when you do, donuts? Seriously?

My MIL gave my daughter strawberries after we told her that she was allergic. MIL wasn't allowed to babysit after that until my daughter was old enough to say no about such things.

Chocolate frosting!?! Are you kidding me? If the horrid MIL had given oatmeal would have been wrong, but frosting? I would not be taking my child back to her for a very long time.

Mom and dad need to be a solid front. I definitely agree. she needs to talk to her husband and communicate that. little boundaries in the beginning can snowball to big boundaries. If she's the only one keeping those boundaries and the husband's not, it could feel very isolating. So honest open dialogue between husband and wife I think is the first step. then together they both need to sit down with mil and set their boundaries. trust with your child is so big, And you want to be able to trust your mother-in-law. once trust is broken it's so hard to get it back. You're the parent now, not them and if they don't understand that they will continue to walk all over your boundaries.
