I will win! I will win!" She takes the stage at 13 and chooses "Nessun Dorma" — the aria of a prince who bets his own head against the dawn, certain he will win. It looks like talent-show coincidence. It isn't. Laura Bretan only made it to that audition because she went to Romania for her grandfather's funeral. It was he who, while still alive, asked her to perform on Romania's Got Talent — season 6. She won. Then came the Golden Buzzer on America's Got Talent, with the same aria, and the final alongside the trio Il Volo. 6th place. Ten years after that audition, she traded the talent show for sacred song: she graduated in Voice Performance from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 2026 and is now a gospel singer, with an album released in 2025. In the aria, the prince sings twice "I will win! I will win!" — and wins at dawn. From the audition in mourning to today's stage, she bet on the same certainty: in April, she returned to Romania with her own concert in Bucharest, ten years after it all began. Did you picture this ending for the 13-year-old who promised "I will win"?
