We see a lot of picture perfect (or attempt of picture perfect/ what even is perfect anyway) form on Instagram. It’s important to note the industry is like a circle ⭕️ Things that are the go to now won’t be in a few years, I feel as social media has grown and one “way” becomes the normal it’s important to highlight the others ways - which contradict the other - the fun thing about bodybuilding IT ALL WORKS! 😎 So do we NEED to control the eccentric to build muscle? Heres an argument for why eccentric loading may NOT be necessary for hypertrophy 🧬 1. THE MOST OVERLOOKED ASPECT 🚨 Avoiding Excess Fatigue! 🚨 Eccentric loading can increase muscle soreness and fatigue, which may hinder recovery times and overall workout frequency, affecting hypertrophy NEGATIVELY. More muscle damage/ soreness does not mean more gains. Going back to my previous reel remember what stimulus hypertrophy - THEM EFFECTIVE REPS 🏆 When you are pushing/ pulling/ legging with maximal effort and the speed slows down - this has nothing to do with the ECCENTRIC! (Proske and Allen 2005) damage to skeletal muscle from eccentric exercise taught us that. 2. GAINS can be made from Concentric and Isometric (Nothing todo with eccentrics) A study by Shoenfield in 2014 backed this up. 3. One you may not expect - Joint Health A study by LaStayo suggests that eccentric loading can lead to joint issues So there we are - you haven’t got to be over thinking your eccentric’s to build muscle - and if anyone says you “must” to build muscle then they are stuck in one part of the ⭕️ ** I do control the eccentric and have done now purposely for the best part of 5 years, but I’m a believer in showing other points of view with some nerdy references !** The reason I do them is as an insurance policy for injury risk, time under tension and the volume in my programming (it’s designed with eccentrics in mind). #bodybuilding #plottwist
