The FTC has found cases where companies made independent profit-maximizing decisions that contributed to price increases, while also finding no evidence of illegal collusion in several major investigations. Fast-forward to September 2026: the EIA says today’s higher pump prices are being driven by elevated crude-oil prices and refinery margins. Gas prices come from crude oil, refining, distribution/marketing and taxes—not a president sitting behind a giant gas-price dial. So asking questions about Big Oil is fair—the industry has more than a century of antitrust scrutiny behind it. But jumping from ‘gas is expensive’ to ‘they’re sabotaging Trump for the midterms’ without evidence isn’t history. That’s a theory looking for evidence. 😂📚”
