@burned_notbroken: A burned out pursuer doesn’t go from “I’m exhausted” to “I’m ready to reconnect” just because their partner finally starts trying. Burnout often moves through nervous system states. When a pursuer becomes anxious, you may see sympathetic activation: anxiety, hypervigilance, over-functioning, pursuing, explaining, fixing, asking for reassurance, and desperately trying to make the relationship feel safe. But when that cycle goes on long enough without meaningful change, the nervous system can move toward dorsal shutdown: numbness, apathy, emotional distance, hopelessness, exhaustion, and eventually the feeling that being alone is safer than continuing to try. This is where many partners unintentionally make things worse. They panic when the pursuer pulls away, so they pursue harder. More texts. More conversations. More promises. More reassurance. More attempts to convince them that things can be different. But you cannot pressure someone out of a protective state. If a burned out pursuer has reached the point where closeness itself feels overwhelming, more intensity can register as more pressure - not safety. Sometimes the first step toward repair is not getting closer. It’s creating enough space for the nervous system to come down from the dynamic that burned it out in the first place. That space is not a guarantee that they will return. It is not a manipulation tactic or a waiting game. It is an opportunity for both people to stop reenacting the same pattern and begin doing the work that makes a different relationship possible. Because the goal isn’t to convince a burned out pursuer to come back. The goal is to become someone - and create a relationship - in which they can eventually feel safe enough to freely choose connection again. Safety isn’t created by chasing harder. It’s created through space, consistency, accountability, emotional regulation, and sustained behavior change. #burnedoutpursuer #relationshipburnout #almostdivorced #relationshiprepair #separation

okay , can it be fixed? after some time ? he was trying for connection and wants to know me more and wants time and theni didn't understand this I thought he was needy, then he start getting anxious then I was telling him he's over reacting or it's too much I was trying to calm him down but it was in a terrible way then he start getting mad at everything. then he shut down I start feeling disconnected .... then he turned to be someone else no joy no playful tone no games .... then he start being busy with his friends and hobbies ... then he said he doesn't want a relationship anymore he burned out and lost his desire... I turned to be anxious to pull him back and chasing it's only Pushed him more away and i felt so neglected. then he left calmly .... I was thinking of trying again after I heal my broken nerves system . could that work ? any help in comments?

She left last week and she said she was emotionally exhausted, I think she moved from stage three to possibly stage 4. But I’m not sure. What should I do, I don’t want to just give up on her.

she just told me yesterday that she was seeing someone new - did you ever see someone else before getting back to your husband?

We hit stage 2 after my husband had a near death experience 5 years ago and shut down. He lives with apathy and no purpose and we have two children still at home (9 & 11) I have been in stage 3 for a year and between numb to detaching. I have been married for 28 yrs and we have been our only support system.🥹😞 I am tired and fake.

I need help, my bfs autistic so its a lot harder usually im the one putting the effort into the relationship but i fear ive been too pushy and hes reached a total burnout, he went from being okay on saturday to completely wanting a 2 week break. Over a slight disagreement. Im giving him his space but im worried it may lead to a breakup.
