The short answer is: this is extremely rare. A biopsy involves taking a small sample of abnormal tissue/organ so that it can be examined and the diagnosis confirmed. For most cancers, the benefit of getting an accurate diagnosis and knowing exactly what we are treating far outweighs this very small risk. Biopsies are performed using established techniques designed to minimise complications.
