I have a ton of fond memories in our local movie store, we would sometimes spend an hour or more deciding and yapping with the owner.

In elementary school my class did a play called Kids. I went to the local rental store and saw a movie called Kids and rented it because I thought it was the play my class was doing. It was not.

Thankfully we still have libraries with movie collections, until DVDs go the way of the VCR.

Brooooooo... I worked for Blockbuster Video from 1996 until the very bitter end in 2011. I have moved on to other jobs and other careers... I make legit 10x what I used to on my career, but I'm still chasing that high of working for BBV.

I worked at Blockbuster in high school. Not only did I see so many indie movies, but it also was a really great place to work. My manager knew my parents and cared about me as a person. I carried a lot of the soft skills I gained in that job into my career.

We didn't even have to sneak. They just kicked us out of the house for several hours a day and didn't ask questions as long as we were home in time for dinner.

@Erin F: My local video store was family owned and Akira and Ghost in the Shell had “18 to rent” stickers. So on my 18th birthday I rented both and was never the same

I'd also ad is that all a TV needed was a power source and an antenna to receive content.

My first job from 18 till the age of 26th was working at an independent video store in my town in Orlando. It was such a great community of locals and I made my first friends there because we could all connect over our media preferences. There's just no place like that anymore.

Not to mention compromise, patience, learning to state your case, in person socializing since the trip to the store was part of the fun, scheduling dedicated fun time to motivate you through the week, and some basic money lessons
