@ryanh083: The soft plastic may look similar, but the rig determines where it can travel, how it falls and how long it remains in front of a bass. TEXAS RIG Start here when bass are holding in grass, wood, brush or other snag-prone cover. The buried hook point makes the presentation weedless while the bullet weight helps it penetrate cover. Use the lightest weight that still provides bottom contact and casting control. Peg the weight when you need the bait and weight to enter thick cover together. WACKY RIG Choose a wacky rig around docks, open pockets, sparse cover and shallow roaming fish. Both ends of the worm move as it falls, creating action without an aggressive retrieve. Let it descend on slack line while watching for the line to jump, stop early or move sideways. NED RIG Use a Ned rig when the bite becomes difficult or bass are feeding close to rock, gravel and clean bottom. Its compact profile catches pressured or inactive fish without requiring constant movement. Drag it, shake it lightly or leave it motionless. An exposed hook works best around clean bottom; use a weedless version near vegetation or brush. CAROLINA RIG A Carolina rig is built to search deep flats, points, channel edges and other offshore structure. The weight maintains bottom contact while the leader allows the bait to follow more naturally behind it. Move it with slow rod sweeps instead of sharp hops, then pause long enough for the bait to settle. Choose the rig by cover, depth and fish position—not simply by your favorite plastic.
