This is really one of the biggest problems in the Maldives. The government keeps taking loans and spending money on Malé, but the debt has to be paid by all Maldivians. At the same time, people in the atolls still struggle to find good job opportunities and meaningful economic development in their own communities. We need more opportunities, investment, and development outside Malé. When decisions about our land and resources are controlled from the centre, it becomes difficult for local communities to bring about the changes they need.
