People keep telling me that there are lots of opportunities for me with a PhD outside of academia but I don’t even know where to begin looking. All I ever get are the same generic answers like was given here. I wish I could find someone who could help give me actual practical advice on where to look. I’m only trained for academia. I don’t know how to find a job outside of academia that I am qualified for and isn’t soul crushing.

All true. The only reason I am doing my postdoc was that industry wasn’t hiring when I was graduating. So I might as well spend a few years to let the job market recover while I get experience here

I could notttt be a professor, I have extreme stage fright even as a senior in college 😭 I shake uncontrollably and just blank even though I know the information I’m trying to talk about. I hate that I never got over it

I was having this same conversation with a friend of mine. She felt she used up so much of her time in academia she didn’t want to change sectors. I kept telling her that her PhD would place her above a lot of candidates. She would be paid top dollar for her expertise.
