@dribrahimbangura: Today, as I celebrate another milestone in my life, I am deeply honoured to have served as the keynote speaker at the International Day of Peace observance organised by the students of the Peace and Conflict Studies Department at Fourah Bay College. Reflecting on this occasion, I am reminded that peace is a choice a choice we make through dialogue rather than confrontation, understanding rather than division, and unity rather than hatred. Peace is not merely the absence of conflict. It is the presence of justice, tolerance, respect, inclusion and the willingness to listen to one another, even when we disagree. It requires courage to forgive, wisdom to compromise, and leadership that places the common good above personal interests. For Sierra Leone, a nation with a remarkable history of resilience, peace must remain a shared responsibility. Every citizen, particularly young people, has a role to play in protecting our hard won peace and strengthening the social bonds that hold our nation together. I am particularly encouraged by the commitment demonstrated by the students of the Peace and Conflict Studies Department. Their initiative is a powerful reminder that the future of peacebuilding belongs not only to governments and institutions, but also to a generation of young people equipped with the knowledge, values and courage to become agents of positive change. On this International Day of Peace, let us choose dialogue over division, compassion over hostility, and unity over hatred. Peace is a choice. Let us choose it not only today, but every day.
