I've seen so many comments calling this movie basic/boring (Probably from people who doesn't need representation all their lives). This is my message for y'all: You simply cannot relate to it because your people are always represented. If your ancestors are the colonizers, you would definitely find this movie boring. It's really hard to relate to the story if you don't have a culture to lose/ forget. Filipinos lived in the USA for so long, part of building the American economy, part of the healthcare community, tagalog even is the 4th largely spoken language the USA yet in television/movies we are invinsible. We are always behind the shadows of East Asians. It came to the point that Filipino parents in the diaspora don't even teach their culture to their children with the intention to assimilate them to American culture. So, it's more than just a story of "memories" and "two bestfriends". It's about stolen culture, forgetting your identity, story of trying to forget the people in your motherland just to try to fit in new society. That's why "brb" is so significant. It's about reconnecting to your culture, to your identity, to what make you YOU. The song, "I never forget about You" is a love letter to the motherland, it's more than just about Joe and Raissa. It's about not forgetting where you came from.
